Virtual Programs Parties Events

Dear Valued Members,
We are thrilled to announce that we will implementing stage I of the Long Island Explorium’s reopening plan by welcoming our members back for private visits each day. We feel that by slowing reopening our museum, we will be able to closely monitor the progress and status of our efforts.
Understandably, visiting the Explorium will be somewhat different than it was prior to the pandemic and so we want to share how we’ve adjusted the Explorium experience so your family can play and have fun safely. Your health is our primary concern!
  • To reduce touchpoints and enable timed visits, all ticketing will be done on our website. Members must make reservations online. In this first stage of our reopening, the museum will host ONE private visit per day. Visitors will be limited to not more than 6, with one staff member present. We will be operating at below the recommended 25% capacity for our Explorium (50 maximum capacity).
  • Staff will be wearing masks or face shields and regularly washing hands. All visitors to the Museum, with the exception of children under two years, will be required to wear a mask. If you are not wearing a mask, you will not be allowed to visit the Museum.
  • All visitors are encouraged to use the hand sanitizers available at the entrance when they enter before proceeding to enjoy the Explorium exhibits.
  • We have intensified the Museum’s already rigorous cleaning procedures. We have outlined and will execute enhanced cleaning procedures in compliance with CDC guidelines. Our staff will conduct a deep cleaning before and after every timed-visit slot.
  • We have adapted our well-loved exhibits to comply with social distancing and cleanliness standards. All used exhibit parts and manipulatives will be put in a separate bin and sanitized after the visit.
  • Please note that not all exhibits are currently open. We have closed our Message Center and Rice Boat as the highly interactive nature of these exhibits makes deep cleaning difficult.
  • We have two high efficiency filters in our Explorium to support increased filtration and air flow. Weather permitting, the front and back doors of the Explorium will also be open.
  • For more information on our reopening plan, please see our website.
  • For details on our extensive cleaning practices, please see our Museum Cleaning Procedures.
We are very excited to open our doors again after so long. If you have any questions or concerns about our reopening policies, please call or email me. I am grateful for your patience and support as we adapt during this time. Our goal is to make your visit as safe, easy, and enjoyable as possible. We look forward to welcoming you back at the Long Island Explorium.
My best,
Angeline Judex, MPA
Executive Director
