Spooky STEM Drop-Off Workshops

This Month the Long Island Explorium will bring spooky fun. With Spooky Science Weekends, where guests can enjoy hands-on, Halloween-themed STEM ACTIVITY.

Participants in the 10/30/22 drop-off workshop are welcome to wear a costume!

Space is limited to 15 students per workshop day for maximum social distancing and workshop participation.

    • Saturday, October 8th, 2022 - Potions Class
    • Saturday, October 22nd, 2022 - Troll Repellent
    • Sunday, October 30th, 2022 - Mummification 
  • Time: 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm
  • Ages: 7 years old/ 2nd Grade to 6th Grade

Cost

  • Cost per workshop: $25/ per student.

** Instructions:   On-site/ In-Person Drop-off Workshop Program with pick-up time of 2:30pm.**

Potions Class

Explore the chemistry behind potion making in this spooky workshop.  Registrants will take part in a variety of experiments and make potions like:

  • The Bubble Potion we have the ability to create a cauldron with an infinite amount of bubble

  • Aeronautics Potion. With our incredible magic powers and our understanding of chemistry we reveal what cannot be seen.

  • Fireworks Potion. Most of the time, fireworks are only seen in the summer months. Now you can make fireworks whenever you want.

Troll Repellent

In this STEM drop-off, program participants will make their own "Troll Repellent" and learn about viscosity (as well as how temperature affects it). Viscosity is how scientists measure the friction in a liquid and determine how fast or slow a liquid flows. To understand viscosity, registrants will create slime to keep the mischievous trolls from stealing candy on Halloween night.

Mummification

Mummies are frequently featured in movies and television shows—often playing the part of a scary monsters. In the spirit of Halloween, you will learn about the science behind the process of mummification by mummifying a hot dog.
